My girlfriend Lucie and I, have been busy in the kitchen during this lead up to Christmas. We decided to supplement socks and chocolates with home made preserves - tomato and apple chutneys and a blackberry brandy tipple. The crafted hand writing is by Lucie and let the sampling commence!

A recent trip to Frome turned up this exquisite, colourful elephant plywood puzzle by Galt Toys. I've become quite obsessed with vintage 70s objects. The style and simplicity is very inspiring, but a pity they don't take long to do.

I will be participating in an exhibition called 'Pure' at the Tube Gallery, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. It starts in January and continues until the end of March 2012. I will be exhibiting a selection of framed prints alongside other artists. The Tube Gallery has an integral cafe, bar and courtyard and showcases some really first class art, design and craft, all set in a beautiful part of the country.

Mshed is a spanking new museum located on Bristol's historic dockside that is dedicated to telling the amazing history of Bristol, through the objects and stories of the people who have made the city what it is today.

Drawn in Bristol and Mshed have given me the opportunity to exhibit some of my work with a mixture of prints and product from 5th November to 30th December. The museum is free and well worth a visit.

New fancy feathered prints

My Pigeon Fancier screen print has been reissued in mid grey and deep pink. They are a larger limited edition of 50 and measure 210mm wide by 160mm high. The paper is Fabriano smooth at 300gsm with a trimmed edge.

'Fling of Sandpipers' is a new image. It has the same spec as above but is printed in a colour associated with window putty, a sandy warm grey.

Flea markets are part of everyday New York life. I spent one Sunday tracking down a few of the more well known gems. One cracker worth a rummage is 'The Garage' at 25th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue, Weekends 9am to 5pm.

I bought these bright vintage toy building blocks. Some have numbers and others illustrate objects...happy rummaging.

Bird Box is a prototype design in order to hold six of my bird cards and envelopes. I have been sourcing stock and screen printed a few design options. I'm not sure whether die cutting a hole in the box is a step too far, but it's worth a trial. I'll be taking these early designs to NYC to show and tell and hopefully after that I can seriously think about production, I'll keep you posted.

I'm glad I went walkabout in Lyme Regis on a rainy Monday because I came across a delicious gem. Hidden behind the main high street, The Town Mill Bakery could be the culinary discovery of the year so far!

Artisan bakers serve up generous portions of wholesome breads, cakes, savoury bites and drinks all day, in an open space, on rustic, solid wooden tables and boards, while the food is prepared all around you. They leave you to simply let them know what you had at the end of your visit and you leave with a smile. Top tip...they're own chunky and crunchy peanut butter.

The groom was a bright designer Aaron Rudd and he was responsible for all the expertly executed stationery, place setting etc and even a flag for a potted flower, planted into a vintage tea cup and saucer for every guest to take home!

If you haven't been to Whitstable in Kent, then I highly recommend it. Try a beer brewed by the Whitstable Brewery, had at the Whitstable Oyster Company. While you're at it, trip over to Brighton, like I did on the same day for some printed art and crash out at The Hop Poles pub where the roast dinners are the biggest I have ever seen! Just some friendly travel advice.

I had the pleasure of tripping for the first time to the Isle of Whight for a wedding. Previously I found this vintage tea towel at a fair in Whitstable, Kent. My girlfriend and I decided to use it as wrapping for the happy couple's gift...it doesn't get more complete than that.

Hanging on the wall of the cafe at the Old Needlemakers, West Street, Lewes, I discovered a gem. Unfortunately the vehicles had been nailed to the backboard but it still remains a genuine finely illustrated wooden puzzle by Galt Toys from the 1960s - the people in the vehicles are behind the puzzle pieces, genius!

If anyone knows who illustrated it please let me know.

Fresh herbs

The Ethicurean owns the cafe at the Barley Wood Walled Garden, Wrington in North Somerset. I have mentioned it in a previous blog as I have exhibited work there. The homely cafe is supplied by the enchanting and restored Victorian kitchen gardens and the grounds support a thriving artist community.

The fine set up there gave me a fresh idea and I have started to create a new body of work that celebrates the herbs found at the Walled Garden, entitled 'Kitchen Garden'. These culinary heroes could feature on napkins, prints and tea towels, starting with an old favourite, Purple Basil.

It's early stages but I have been commissioned as an illustrator and designer by WWF and it's partner licensing company, The Licensing Company, London. I am a member of the World Wildlife Fund and keen to find ways to expose and spread their very important campaign messages in safeguarding the natural world. I've been following and attending the launches of a well produced magazine called Boneshaker, based in Bristol, that is a celebration of cycling and the people who do it. It's full of articles, personal stories and anecdotes about people and projects doing great things with bicycles around the globe.

I was asked to contribute to the recently launched fifth issue. Four pieces of work illustrate an article written by James Bowthorpe that explores the magical union between listening to music and cycling. Buy a copy of the magazine as it's a great read.

I was knocked out by the delicious collection of printed art and crafted designs at Unlimited Edition's open studio in Brighton several weeks ago. Truely a mouth watering portfolio dedicated to the graphic arts.

Unlimited Editions is the retail arm of the graphic design practice, Unlimited. We got to meet each other and they had kindly agreed to allow me to join them and sell my recent work on their site. If you know Pembrokeshire with it's rich sunsets, unspoilt countryside, breath taking coastal walks and perfect beaches then you may appreciate that it's worth capturing by splashing a little watercolour.

West Angle village and bay is a place dear to me where one can view the mouth of Milford Haven where it meets the Irish Sea and in the East Bay the villagers harbour their boats with the back drop of the Texaco oil refinery. All picture perfect!

Days in the Dales

All I can say is that if you haven't been then go soon. The Yorkshire Dales is a striking rural kingdom, sometimes beautiful, sometimes haunting, but always with a scale and character that overshadows much of what lies beneath it within other counties.

We were fortunate to stay at a friends cottage in Thoralby, North Yorkshire where Black Sheep ale and Wensleydale cheese are served. My fav dish was a a Black Sheep ale battered piece of Whitby Haddock served at The George and Dragon, Aysgarth.

WWF HQ

I have recently completed illustrations for banners installed in the reception of the head quarters of the World Wildlife Fund, Goldalming in Surrey.

There are four key environments illustrated that represent the natural world that the WWF campaigns to safeguard. The printing was carried out in-house and applied to a 100% recycled material using eco friendly inks.

County commissions

Before the year is out I have created two new 'My County' prints in response to people wanting their own county in print having seen them advertised at Pedlars.

Royal Berkshire and Garden of England for Kent are shown above. They will be widely available as a limited edition of 200. If you would like to have your very own county as a print then do contact me.

Birds of a colour

New for 2011 are five limited edition small screen prints. The series is titled Birds of a Colour and features five birds printed in a colour belonging to their name: Red shank, Blackbird, Greenfinch, Blue tit and Grey wagtail.

Rose(y) Nose

We had an open house leading up to Christmas and offered all our guests a signature cocktail called 'Rose(y) Nose'.

For those who like a splash of festive entertaining it is served firstly by coating the rim of the glass in egg white which helps apply crushed pink sugar for that extra sparkle! Next is a generous glug of ginger wine, be it Crabbies or Stones then topped up with a quality sparkling rose wine, cava or champers. The evening flowed very well!

A shop of interest

The Shop of interest is a very new shop that opened in Glasgow, describing itself as a purveyor of arts and interesting things. I can only track them down on the Facebook page and I guess a site will follow.

I am now selling various products in their shop as Glasgow continues to be a hot bed of gift design.

While I work out what the other 23 animals will be here are the first three of my series of Animalphabet cards once more from another position in my house. The are £3.50 each and that comes with an envelope too! If they were involved with Noah they would come in twos, but that is not the case here, for a pack of four they are £12.00.

I enjoyed being involved in my first mini-print exchange at Snap, Bristol, in the summer so much that I decided to print and add four more to the series.

Each print measures 210 mm square and if I get my act together they will be displayed on my home page soon. They are all an edition of 30 at £45 each and I'm sure they'll make a great stocking filler, even if you don't make the slopes this winter!

Art behind the Walled Garden

A selection of work, including my prints, will be exhibited at the Barley Wood Walled Garden Cafe, Wrington, North Somerset. The green light has been given by Bristol Ethicurean and has been curated by Katy Chard who is a printmaker at Snap, Bristol.

Matt and Jack are Bristol Ethicurean who are committed to providing fine tasting food by sourcing ethical and local produce. These two Bristolians have moved their operations to Barley Wood.

Tenderfoot opening

Calling all craft folk in Bristol BS4 or all of Bristol come to think of it - Tenderfoot opened last Saturday 13th and has already created a lot of interest. It's a make and bake kinda of place.

Besides giving life to a previously derelict shop, it is providing a haven for creative workshops for young and old and stocks designs from Brislington's and Bristols creative massive. Tenderfoot can be found at 100 Wick Road, Brislington Bristol BS4 4HF.
